Word won't recognize attachments

Greetings.

When I click on an .doc attachment in a Eudora e-mail, I am re-directed
to Word, but to an already open Word document. Word does not open the
attachment. How can I resolve this problem?

(The Eudora tech people said it's a problem with Word-not with Eudora.)

Hi kim or jerry,

I've never used Eudora but doesn't it allow you to download the attachment
to your desktop (or a folder)? Once it's downloaded, double-click on it.
Does it open in Word now? Does it try to open in some other application?
If so, select the .doc by clicking once, do a Get Info (Cmd>i), change the
"Open with" pop-up menu to Word and click "Change all". By the way, this
all depends on your being in Word X or 2004 in OS X. Since you didn't say
(please always do!), I made that assumption. If it's incorrect, post back
with your OS and Word version numbers.

If the same thing happens as before, also try opening it using the File
Menu>Open command from within Word.
