Word won't retain my shortcuts or autocorrect entries

That's the whole, frustrating story, has been for a year;
and reinstalling Word (on Dell's advice,the only advice
they will give) doesn't work. I'm not sure this is
an "application" problem, and if it isn't, can someone
please tell me what category I should try? Thanks.

Hi Ruth,

What type of permissions have been set for your user account?

You should search for your *.acl files and review the permissions set
to the folder.

Additionally, how are you starting Word? Are you using a Desktop
shortcut? If so then right-click the shortcut and select Properties.
Take a look at the Target path and made sure there isn't a "/a" at the
end. This switch starts Word using the factory defaults and any
customizations you make will not be saved.

When you quit Word, are you getting a prompt to save Normal.dot? Are you
saying yes?
