Word won't save any documents

Frank

Hey everyone,

I've been running Word XP for months now with no problems.
Now, all of a sudden, when I try to save a doc - just a
line of text - I click on "save" or "save as" and nothing
happens. No errors at all - it just doesn't save anything.

I've tried reparing and re-intsalling and the same thing
keeps happening. Office was updated a few weeks ago. The
rest of my office apps work fine.

Any ideas?
Thanks!

Rename the Normal.dot Global Template for Word

RENAME NORMAL.DOT (applicable for Win XP and Win 2000 )
Click on Start - Run and type in %appdata%
Click Ok. This will open Application Data window
In this open Microsoft folder
Now open Templates folder
Rename each instance of Normal.dot to Normalold and Normalold1
Close that window.
Check with Word.

The advice below is excellent. I would also suggest that
once you get the problem solved, you make a back-up copy
for normal.dot. I used that to get back on track.

Hi, I've got these last two days exactly the same problem ...
I tried this tip but it doesn't solve my problem, simply nothing changes.

I can't say it better than Frank :

What happens if you start in Safe Mode. Use Start, Run and type in

winword /a

and press enter. Word opens in its default install mode with all add-in,
templates, macros and COM add-ins bypassed. Are you able to save now? If
not, are you sure that you have activated your product?

Hi Terry

You got it - If I start in safe mode it works ...

Now I have to find a way to learn which add-in breaks the thing ...

thanx for any hint ...
