word won't start

Word (Office XP) won't start except in safe mode. I have tried all
suggestions mentioned in the response to a similar post by someone else
although the suggestions offered don't seem to cover Word 10. I have all
current upadates to WIndows XP and Office XP Pro. Other Office programs work
fine. When I try to open Word, the license window opens but Word never fully
opens. I have oto log off and log on again and start in the safe mode.

I'm not sure which safe mode you are referring to, but if Word works
as expected when you start Windows Safe Mode then it could be an issue
with your graphics driver or perhaps a printer driver. Word will task
your graphics driver more than other applications and it queries the
printer driver when it starts. So if there are problems with either
then Word may not open.

In the article Suzanne referenced for you, make sure you note the
section titled "Check your printer driver" if you are using a network
printer. If the printer driver is not available then this will also
prevent Word from starting and since you are noted there is a bit of a
delay before the crash then I suspect the delay is caused by Word
attempting to find the printer driver and then finally times out and
crashes.

If this checks out then obtain updates for both your graphics and
printer drivers from the manufacturer's web sites and see if that
resolves the issue.
