Word wont start

I am running Office '97 on windows '95 and suddenly Word won't start. It
gives an error:
"This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If
the problem persists..."

I have tried reinstalling Office but it hasn't helped. Does anyone know what
can cause this problem and how can I get Word to run again.
