Word -- Wordpad

Everytime I save a Word document, whether it is to the
hard drive, zip drive or floppy, Word saves it as a
wordpad document and I am unable to reopen it into Word.

Jacqueline,

It sounds like your "save" option might be set
incorrectly. Try going to Tools/Options/Save. Select
Word Document (*.doc) under "Save Word files as". This is
usually the first (top-most) selection for this option.

Good Luck,

If you're trying to open your documents from within
Windows Explorer, you may not have your Word Files
properly associated. Try opening your documents from
within Word using File | Open.

Check your associations in Windows Explorer using...

View | Folder Options | File Types | Microsoft Word
Document. Click Edit and make the proper association.

I suspect you are trying to open the document outside of Word rather
than using File/Open?

If that is the case then the *.doc file extension is associated with
Word Pad instead of Word. To rectify go to Start/Run and run:

winword /r

Note the space before the forward slash.
