I recently installed the latest Office 2004 update 11.4.1. The first time I tried to start Word and load a recent, small document I received the following error message:

"Word could not create the work file. Check the amount of disk space on your startup disk."

I clicked Ok to continue.

Then the following error mssg displayed:

"You are working without a Word work file and memory is nearly full. Save your work."

There is approx 45 gb of available disk space on my computer and 2gb ram - no other applications were running at the time and

That message is a bit misleading - In this case it means Word doesn't have
write capability to create the temporary files, which is most likely a

Hi bob, you seem to know a lot about Word and I'm have the same working
without a word file problem. I tried repairing the disk permissions and
restarting and that still didn't work. Any other thoughts? Jamie

If that solution didn't work for your situation it must be a *different*
situation:) so post it as a NEW message rather than hijacking a dead
thread.

In order to get anywhere we'll need to know : Specific Word version, OS X
version, & type of Mac.
