When I type word wrap does not allow me to insert a letter or delete without
deleting previuos typing. In other words, I have to retype all proceeding
typing.

TX a bunch, I understand the insert key method, but please explain the OVR on
status bar. Which status bar??

Status BAr usually means the bar at the bottom of the application WIndow
(for most applications). So right-click on teh Status Bar and choose the
options you want displayed.

The status bar is the bar across the bottom of the Word window that displays
the page and section number and other position information followed by a row
of boxes marked REC (to turn the macro recorder on/off), TRK (to turn Track
Changes on/off), EXT (to turn the Extend Selection mode on/off), and OVR (to
turn Overtype mode on/off). By default, all these are off, so the display is
dimmed. If any of them is black, that means it's on. You toggle them by
double-clicking. When you press the Insert key you'll see that the display
of OVR is toggled.
