Word X Crashes after "Save As"

I've been having problems saving documents with a different name
after opening them from Entourage. If I save them with the same name
(Save), I can then use the "Save As" to rename them. If I just try to use
the "Save As" after opening them from email attachments, then Word
crashes. Any experience out there on this issue?

No. This is a first for me. Let's see if I've got this straight.

You receive an attachment of a Word document. Are you then saving it to
your desktop and using File>Open from within Word to open it, or
double-clicking on it from within Entourage? Do you have the same problem
either way?

Once you have the document open, you do a Save and you're okay (and you can
then do a Save As to change the document's name). But if you do a Save As
first, Word crashes? That's very weird. Do you get any error messages?

Try some general troubleshooting measures. Repair disk permissions and be
