WORD X crashes in header/footer

I'm creating multi-page/ multi-section a document in Word X. I've
upgraded WORD to version 10.0.6 and am currently running on Tiger
10.4.3.

Currently there is no text in the document, only the header and footer
which contains some text, a horizontal line and a graphic of our logo.
The problem is when I'm trying to unlink the section breaks to change
the formatting of the following section header and footer by unclicking
the "same as previous" button on the header/footer tool bar - the
program crashes.

I've tried creating a new document and copying over the header and
footer, as well as, saving it as a different name and the same thing
happens. I had no previous problems before upgrading last week and it
even worked fine for a day after that.

Any suggestions?

Such consistent and reproducible problems in Word usually respond to one of
the standard troubleshooting measures, which you will find listed here:

http://word.mvps.org/MacWordNew/TroubleshootingIndex.htm
(hit refresh a few times in Safari, or use a different browser)

Work through them one by one until something helps. If nothing does, post
back. The most common culprit is a corrupted Normal template or damaged
Preferences file.
