word x double icon

I have microsoft word icon on the dock all the time. When I open word
x, it opens up another word icon on the dock, so there are 2 word
icons when word is open. How do I correct this so there is only one
word icon. I have already uninstalled office completely, repaired
permissions, removed all the office preferences in the library
folders, etc. I have os 10.2.8. with all the office updates up to
10.1.5. Any suggestions?

Hi Yasudab,

I don't have a very good answer for you. In fact it's a question. When you
uninstalled Office, did you do so by using the Remove tool from the CD or by
dragging Office to the trash? If you did the latter, it's probable that not
all files were removed so try it again as follows (and be sure not to miss
the repair permissions part):

The Remove Office tool is located in the Value Pack folder on the Office X
CD. Install it and run it. Now reinstall Office X using the installer on
the CD or do a Drag & Drop to the Applications folder. Also don't forget to
install any Value Pack items you need. When you've finished, you'll need to
download (<http://www.microsoft.com/mac/download/>) and install the Office X
10.1.2, 10.1.4 (includes 10.1.3) and 10.1.5 updaters.

For the most trouble-free installation, run Disk Utility First Aid to repair
permissions after you remove Office, after you reinstall it and after you
install all the updates. To repair permissions go to Macintosh
HD/Applications/Utilities; open up Disk Utility; select your hard disk and
click the First Aid tab and then the button to "Repair Disk Permissions".

That's my best suggestion. Hope it helps.

You don't! That's the way the Dock works. The first icon is the Alias that
starts the program. The second one is the actual document instance. If you
open a second document, you will get a third icon, etc. This enables you to
switch between documents with a single click.

If you don't need the main icon, you can drag that out of the Dock. You can
start Word quite happily from the desktop icon or by double-clicking a
document in the Finder.

That will mean you will see a Word icon in the Dock only when you have a
document open.
