Word X Drawing tool problem

I am running Office X on a 6 month old G4, 256 K RAM. Recently the
Drawing tool stopped working...regardless of how I try to activate it
once a document is opened, I get the 'spinning windmill', which locks
everything up until I Force Quit. All the other items in the Toolbar
work fine, Drawing is the only problem child.

I have reinstalled the Office software, as well as that for OS x, to
no avail.

Any thoughts out there???
