Word X is slowing to a crawl...please help

All of a sudden, whenever I open up a blank document in Word X (version X
with service release 1), it takes over 45 seconds just for the blank
document to open up. The same happens with existing documents. I am running
on a Powerbook G4 500mhz. Up until last week, it was working fine. No new
software added. It is just in Word, not in any other office product or any
other software. Tried trashing the preferences. No good. Any suggestions?

Try some disk maintenance like processes (like Cron, clearing your cache
file), there is a good little app which will do it for you - Cocktail,
locate it in a search on versiontracker.com Run that and see if that helps,
other thing to do is see if you are running a lot of app (either visible or
hidden, check the login pane in preferences.
