Word X Page Numbering Will Not Restart Correctly

I'm attempting to combine two Word documents into one for purposes of
transmission. Each is two pages long (a resume and cover letter which
are required to be in the same file).

I'd like the two documents to have separate page numbering with the
formulation "Page 1 of 2" and then "Page 2 of 2." I've used a section
break (next page) to separate the documents and have gone into the
footer of "document two" and highlighted the "Start at 1" numbering
option as opposed to "continue from previous section."

Here's what happens. In the first section, the footer reads "Page 1 of
4" as opposed to "Page 1 of 2." (I was hoping that the resetting the
page numbering in the second section would limit the page total.) When
I get to the second section, the footer also reads "Page 1 of 4."

Am I missing something, or am I just stuck?

There might have been a trick such as go to the end of the document
before printing.

In your shoes, I'd fake it to get the job out the door. Hard code a 2
in each section. No-one but you and me will know.

Missing something. :)

The ## icon on the header/footer toolbar inserts a NumPages field, which is
total pages in doc. You need a SectionPages field, which is total pages in
section.

View Header/Footer. Select the 4 and control-click (or right-click) and
select Toggle Field Codes so that you see { NUMPAGES }. Change that to {
SECTIONPAGES }.

Kewl! I never knew there was a sectionpages either.
Thanks.

Thanks to you and everyone. A very valuable tool. Just when you think
you have a program figured out....

Thanks.

The Insert | Field dialog is almost as rich and as frustrating as the Tools
| Customize dialog. :)
