Word X pinwheel in document

Hi. I've got a pinwheel in a word document which continues to spin and
does not allow me to add to the document. It sits spinning until I
have to force quit. It goes into this spin when I open the document
and try to add words.

Does anyone know why and how to fix this?

Hi Christine,

What is your OS version and do you have Word X fully updated?

Does this happen with just the one document or with all documents? If the
former, where did it come from (who created it and on what machine and are
you sure it's a Word doc?)?

Thank you Beth. I went through the other Google group messages and
Microsoft Office X help messages and finally tried to rename my Word
template document and replace the Word (10) settings, which were the
suggestions I got. As of yesterday, nothing helped. Then I removed
office and reinstalled. That still did not help yesterday. Strangely
enough, after reading your reply today, I went back to the Word
document which was causing me problems. I haven't seen the pinwheel
since. I also opened another Word document and tried typing new stuff
into to get the pinwheel back, but it didn't appear. Maybe my system
needed a break?!

I have a 10.2.8 OS X and, since removing and reinstalling OS X, I will
have to go back and update the Word software.
