Word X wont open unless I delete Normal

S

Steve Sherriff

Whenever I try to open word X on the mac it now crashes and says that the
application terminated unexpectedly, if I delete normal it opens fine but
then recreates normal when I quit, which also has to be deleted before I can
open word again.

I have tried saving a new version of normal but it still seems to go wrong

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Steve

Hi Steve,

This may be a problem with duplicate or corrupt fonts. See here:
<http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=313535>

Also, be sure you have Office/Word fully updated
(<http://www.microsoft.com/mac/download/> and repair disk permissions:

For OS 10.2.x or 10.3:
Go to Macintosh HD/Applications/Utilities. Open up Disk Utility. Select
your hard disk, then click the First Aid tab. Click the button to "Repair
Disk Permissions".

For OS 10.1.5:
Download the Repair Privileges utility, free from Apple, and run it:

Thanks for trying to solve my word problems, I have repaired the permissions
on my drive and have looked at the web page about bad fonts, but word does
not get as far as the splash page, infact it doesn¹t seem to get any where.

Any other ideas?

I have now repaired permissions and tried following the steps to identify
corrupt fonts, I still however cannot start word without deleting normal
first.

I installed Adobe acrobat 6 a few days before if you think that may have
cause problems....

Any other ideas?

Steve

You are a genius!

Disabling PDFmaker in the templates and add ins folder did not work, however
going in to the office startup folder and deleting PDF maker did!

Thanks for your time

Actually what happens is that word will open but it takes 5 minutes or more.
You just open Word, sit get you a cup of coffee, go brush your teeth, comb your
hair, clean your glasses. Word will eventually open. But even after it opens it
will work in slow motion.

I assure you it won't open as the application unexpectedly quits

Sorry about that! didn't pay any attention to the X. I was thinking 2001 (OS9/Classic).

In OS9 what I describes happens. It allows word 2001 to open, but it takes 5
minutes to do so.
