Word XP and Win '98 OS

This is a new problem that I experienced a few days ago.

I am trying to add a text box or anything related to the
drawing menu in Microsoft Word XP. When I click on the
arrow in the drawing toolbar, and then go to text box, for
instance, the program freezes. Rebooting does not help.

I did a complete uninstall and reinstall of the Office XP
Professional Suite with Frontpage and did several reboots
to no avail.

About 8 weeks ago I put in a new hard drive. On my old
system, I did not have a problem. I also have all of the
Win '98 updates installed on my computer.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advanced!

I want to add that when I tried to do an uninstall, the
program would freeze. I ended up downloaded and
installing an uninstall program that gets corrupt files
and bad registry keys. After that uninstall, I was able
to reinstall it but still would freeze when trying to do
the text box in Word.
