Word XP--Autorecover normal.dot

Everytime I launch Word XP it is attempting to recover the normal.dot file.
It is always the (original) file and is time-stamped the last time I exited
Word. The option to delete it is greyed out. Have checked rights to the
Templates directory where it lives; have deleted it and let it recreate --
no change. Thanks!
