Word XP - date field / how to make text

K

KL

A user inserts a date field and it is updating each time
the document is opened. The field is not set to "update
automatically" How can I turn this into text so it will
not update automatically?

The only thing I can think of now is to delete the field
and type the date manually.

I know in Word97 this could be done easily within the
field, but don't see how in XP.

Suggestions?

Hi KL,

Depending on what you're trying to achieve, you could change the DATE field
to any one of CREATEDATE, SAVEDATE or PRINTDATE, none of which will change
every time you open the document. The first is set permanently when the
document is created, while latter two only update when the document is saved
or printed, respectively.

To change the errant field, select it and press Shift-F9 to reveal the field
code. The field should look like { DATE }. You can now prefix DATE with
CREATE, SAVE or PRINT. Then press F9 to reset the field.

Cheers
