Word-XP Document hangs causing computer crash

Hi.

This problem is specific to MS Word (Microsoft Office XP
and Windows XP).

When I am in mid-use of a document, and briefly stop using
it (E.g. going off to make a coffee for 5-10 minutes), I
invariably come back to find the screen frozen and the
computer hung (red light on computer tower is flashing to
indicate system has crashed). I am forced to restart the
computer. This does not happen when using non-Microsoft
applications. This does not happen when I am in mid-use of
MS- word. Any suggestions?

Hi Daniel,

Does your screensaver kick in around 5-10 minutes? If so try using one
of the screensavers that came with Windows and see if that resolves
the problem.

Even though it may not happen in other applications - you may be
surprised at some of the problems downloaded screensavers cause.
