For some reason Word is giving me grief concerning its save function.
This is a shared puter, so someone else, somehow, made Word save docs only
in some other file version.
No, not file type, as in .txt or .doc.... File *conversion*. It's saying
the default is set for japanese.
1. Open Word.
2. New Doc.
3. Type Text.
4. Save as.
5. Select 'Save as Type'.....I always choose plain text, unless i need fancy
stuff.
6. Click Save.
7. File Conversion box pops up (always does), with the default set as
Windows default which is Western European (Windows). The Options for 'Insert
line breaks ' and 'Allow character substitutions' are not checked. The "End
lines with' is set at 'CR/LF (whatever that means).
8. Click 'Ok' and the doc is saved. close doc.
9. File/Open/Double L click on just saved doc.
10. File Conversion box opens. For whatever reason, the selected coding is
set as 'other encoding: Japenese (Shift - JIS)'. I had not type nor saved it
as japenese in any way shape or form.

There are a few .txt docs that were somehow saved as 'other conversion'.
Word won't let me save them any other way, even when i type and save the same
words fresh in a new blank doc. i have the problem doc open when i retype
the same words in a fresh doc. maybe that has something to do with it?
Ok, I tried it w/o the problem doc open...typed same words, even saved it in
a diff file. same problem. too, too weird.

Word will let me type and save random text, just not the specific words that
are in the docs that were somehow only saved as 'other conversion', which is
too weird.

I scan the whole puter with AVG (as well as the specific problem docs by
themselves) for viruses. found nothing.
