Word XP Footnote Repagination Problem

M

Matthew Hardy

Hi,

I asked about this a while ago, but never got a response, so thought I'd
try again. I have a large document and want to add footnotes to so of
the content in my chapters. However, I have found that when I go to a
page that occurs after my first footnote (anywhere after, even 200 pages
after), my pages constantly re-paginate themselves (or Word says
re-paginating at the bottom and everything on screen flickers
constantly). Just wondering if anyone had encountered any similar sorts
of problems?

Are there any good guides on optimising margins for the use of footnotes?

Thanks,

Matthew

My guess would be that you are asking Word to do something with that
footnote that is making it dither. Perhaps the Footnote Text style is set to
"Keep lines together" or (worse still) "Keep with next." You can see how
having a single footnote paragraph on a page set to "Keep with next" would
confuse Word!

Or it could just be that Word is having trouble figuring out whether there
is room for the text that contains the footnote reference *and* the footnote
on the same page. This could also be exacerbated by formatting in the text
paragraph. Setting the line spacing of the document text to an Exact amount
seems to help Word with its calculations. For more, see
