Word XP hangs when opening document

A couple of PC's running WinXP and WordXP hang when
opening certain old documents. These documents were
created in Word2000 using Fillin fields. All our PC's are
patched with the latest WinXP and WordXP patch. These
documents can be opened on a Win98 / Word2000 PC with no
problem. If we save the document as a template using
Word2000, then the WordXP user can open the document but
this is becoming a problem as there are too many
documents.

Please can someone help me with this as soon as possible
as it is now turning into a nightmare.
