Word XP, hangs

Hi,

I have Office XP installed on my laptop. This came with
the laptop itself.

For some reason everytime I try and use the vertical
scroll bar in Word XP, my application hangs.

Also, everytime I open a Word doc to edit it creates like
10 or 20 .tmp file in my folder and then never deletes
them automatically. I understand that Word creates a
temporary file to allow for autosave but 20 or 30 files
seems like something may be wrong.

Any-idea how to fix this?

The manufacturer (HP) did not give me any office cd and
so i can't even re-install it.
