All of these threads had a message posted to them that
explains a workaround:
"Yep - as strange as it may sound I suspect you've
encountered a bug in
Handwriting Recognition. Try the following:
- Open your Control Panel
- Open Regional and Language Settings
- Select the Language tab
- Click Details
- Remove Handwriting Recognition
If you need the service you can install it again after
you've removed
it and verified Word no longer ends when you attempt to
Restore a
document window.
Let us know what you find!
Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup.
Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.

I am going to attempt to use the workaround and verify
whether or not it works. If so, I'll post again.
