Word XP shuts off wihtout warning when two DOCs are open

Mehmet Ali

Hi;

I have been having an annoying problem with MS Word XP.
The problem occurs only when two or more word documents
are open. When I minimize one of them and go on to work
on the other, everything is fine. But when I want to
maximize the minimzed window, all of the documents are
shut off without any error message. I downloaded all
Windowx Xp and XP Office service packs. Anyone have any
idea about this? Thanks.

I have located the following other threads on this

All of these threads had a message posted to them that
explains a workaround:
"Yep - as strange as it may sound I suspect you've
encountered a bug in
Handwriting Recognition. Try the following:

- Open your Control Panel
- Open Regional and Language Settings
- Select the Language tab
- Click Details
- Remove Handwriting Recognition

If you need the service you can install it again after
you've removed
it and verified Word no longer ends when you attempt to
Restore a
document window.

Let us know what you find! :)

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup.

I am going to attempt to use the workaround and verify
whether or not it works. If so, I'll post again.

I removed the handwriting recognition services, and Word
did work fine. When I re-added the handwriting
recognition services, the bug re-appeared. I am
attempting to pin the problem down to one of the specific
elements of the handwriting recognition (write-anywhere,
drawing pad, etc.) by experimenting with different
combinations of the services.

On a side note, I believe that this issue is persistent
enough that it should be added as a Microsoft Knowledge
Base article...
