Word XP SP3 - How to completely shut down?

I have noticed that when I shut down Word, it's still there in the
background (in the Activity Manager). This is possibly intended to make
it start faster, but I would like it to shut down completely.
Is that possible?

Are you using Word as your email editor in Outlook? If so then that is
the cause.

Are you using Word as your email editor in Outlook? If so then that is
