Word XP: There are too many edits in the document....

I have a 121 page document with multiple screen capture
images making the total file about 18 MB.

Any time I try to move an image within the document, I get
the following error "There are too many edits in the
document. This operation will be incomplete. Save your
work."

I have looked at the online support and MS says it is
either a problem with TEMP folder being full or corrupted
disk.

I have deleted all TEMP files, ran check disk (Windows
2000) and defragged the drive. I have about 8 GB free
space.

I have tried to run the file from a network server and my
local machine. I have also duplicated the error on two
other machines...one with sigificant resources.

Please help with any suggestions.
