Word Xp title bar flashes and fail to print a Word97 labels page

I used the mail merge tool in Word 97 to create mailing labels pages which
print fine from Word 97. However, after sending them to another computer
using Windows Xp and opening them in Word Xp, I am unable to print them.

Instead of printing, the title bar in Word Xp flashes continuously along
with some msg title bar and the pages never go to the printer. Since the
pages were initially set for manual feed, I also tried that to no avail.

Why does the Title Bar flash and why doesn't it print the label pages?
Would it help if I tried re-saving the document in Word Xp?

Do you run Norton AV? Uncheck its office plug-in option.

Yes. NAV is loaded on that computer, although I'm not sure at the moment
whether "autoprotect" is enabled. I'll have to check on that, although the
label pages doc files were sent as attachments and had already been
downloaded onto that system before opening word2002.

Thanks,

The office plug-in is buggy and causes windows to open behind the main
window - hence the problem.

THANK YOU Graham. I don't recall installing an option with NAV for Word, but
upon disabling NAV AutoProtect, the label pages printed out with no problem!

Now if I can figure out how to "mail merge" with a comma-quote delimited
data fields data source with Word Xp (Word2002) as easily as I was able to do
with Word 2000 and 97, I'll be set. The wizard is completely different as
far as selecting which fields one wants to put onto the labels. Much more
intuitive with the earlier Word versions.

thanks again!

You don't have to switch off the protection offered by Norton AV - only the
Office plug-in option which is installed by default and which does nothing
much that is useful.

Mail merge is more complicated in Word 2002 than in Word 2000, but see -
