Word xp to Word 97 Compatability

I have a files created in Word XP on winXp service Pk1 which I am trying to
open in Word 97 of Win2000 service Pk 4 setup. I get the following error
message ' file xxxx is in use by xxxx. Do you want to make a copy?' If you
click on NO, any other .doc opened in the window, opens with no error message.
Is there a patch or work around for the word 97?

I'm seeing the same thing. But opening a word 97 doc on
an XP box w/ officeXP.
