Word XP won't add page numbers

Hello

I have a 98 PC running Office XP standard edition. I'm
unable to add page numbers to the Word documents. Opening
any documents from another PC works flawlessly ( All 98
running Office XP. I have repaired the installation
without success and uninstalled and reinstalled without
success as well. Neither corrected the inability to add
page numbers through "Insert", "Page Numbers". All that
shows up is this {PAGE..}
Any ideas would be appreciated
