How can i add a text box into the smart graphic templates available within word? I am using a pie chart and i want to encase this within a border and add a text box.

Hi Suzanne:

Essentially, "you can't". You have to create the text box, then float it
over the top of the Squeezy Graphic, and then group the whole assembly.

I am afraid the Smart Art is awfully dumb!

Hi Suzanne -

Although you can't modify the *template* you can add a text box to a chart
in your doc easily enough... Just use one of the Shape Tools in the Objects
Palette (or Drawing Toolbar) to create the "box" & type in your text. Format
as desired & once you have it sized & positioned select & Group the Chart &
the text box. BTW: you'll find quite a few shapes you can use, such as
Callouts, Arrows, Banners, etc., not just boxes.

As for the border, use the tools in the Formatting Palette in the Colors,
Weights & Fills group or double-click the chart's frame & select Line from
the left list. You'll find other toys there as well. Just make these
formatting changes before you group the chart with the text box.
