Word 2003 - I added a color FORMAT/BACKGROUND/FILL EFFECT to a document and
it shows on screen but not in print preview and it doesnt print. How can I
print the page with the background showing (behind the text, of course)

Thanks!

In Word 2003, click on Tools | Options | Print | check the
"Background colors and images" box | OK.

Backgrounds are primarily intended for wb page output rather than print. You
can go to Tools>Options>Print & put a check in the box for Background Colors
& Images if you wish. There is no guarantee that the Background will cover
the entire sheet of paper depending on the capabilities of your printer, but
itwill be behind the text.

Thanks Garfield & Taz,

Simple. I went there but confused "Background Printing" (which was enabled)
with "Background Colors & Images." So I did as you say and the background
printed........but

I have both a graphic page border ANDa background, and the printed
background is not centered vertically, and apparently covers up the bottom of
the border. Don't think I can win here.

Correct - It is an 'either/or' situation between those two features.

However, what you might do is draw a Rectangle AutoShape on the
Header/Footer layer of the doc, apply your Fill Effect to it and size it to
fit within the Page Border. Set the rectangle's Text Wrapping property to
'Behind Text' as well.
