The reason why this occurs is because it is possible that
the Normal.dot template may be corrupted.

To correct this, please follow the steps below:

1. Go to Start Button, select find, files and folders
(Win95/98) use search for
Windows ME.

2. In the Named box type "Normal.dot" without the
quotation marks.

3. In the Look in box select the C:\ drive.

4. Locate the Normal.dot file.

5. Right click on file name and select rename.

6. Select the name field and move curser to the end of
file. Rename Normal.dot
to Normal.old

7. Now clean out the windows\temp folder.

8. Try launching Word and see what happens.

Numerous problems, including damaged program files,
damaged documents and conflicting software, can cause

Thank you so much - it worked. I had tried to rename
Normal.doc several times today and it wouldn't let me.
