Word2000 will not open.

When I try to open any Word Document the hourglass
appears and the program does not open. I have gone into
Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL) which gives me a window with a
white background. It tells me that there are not enough
resources to run this program. I then have the choice to
close down a number of programs running on the computer.
I can't see what can be going wrong as I know from Norton
System Doctor that the CPU should have enough free
resources. In the last week I have deleted a lot of Word
documents. Could this have caused the problem? Does
anyone have any possible solutions?
