word2000 wont start

For some reason word2000 wont start. I get a screen, then it stops
loading. I
am running windows98se. I once got the message that ther is a general
protection fault user.exe. I only got this message once. I have tried to
start word on many occasions. It used to start perfectly. I thought that
the problem might have occured after downloading a copy of JAP, but after
reverting the drive to before the download, I have still have the proble,

Please can someone advise me on how to solve the problem.
