Word2002 under Windows 2000

The Works Suite is supposed to run on Microsoft Windows
2000 Service Pack 3 or later. I have SP4. Word runs fine
with one exception. In predictable times, e.g. when a
space is added at the end of a sentence, or text is
highlighted, the text goes to a black background with
black text. If the "Blinking Background" special effect
is on the selected area alternates between black and white
with no text visible. When the view is changed,
e.g. "final showing markup" to "final" or "original"
to "original showing markup" the correct view
reinstantiates until text is again highlighted or changed.

This does not occur in my Word 2002 on Windown XP
installation.

Anybody have an idea on how to fix this? I have
downloaded all updates.
