Word2007 closes as soon as opened

Word 2007 frequently shows an error message when I open a document that
informs me "Office has encountered a problem and needs to close".
It then closes and tells me it's trying to recover my information.
Subsequently, every time I try to open that document I get the same message.
Has anyone else experienced this and what's the solution?
