Working with equations in microsoft word 2007 RTM can cause some GUI
corruption if the equations tools are used in each of the open documents.
The following website prodides details and illustrations:

http://nothing-but-mick.blogspot.com/2007/04/mso2007-word-gui-corruption.html

To Summarize:

1. Open Microsoft Office Word 2007 RTM twice, so you have two new windows
each with their own new document.
2. In the first, insert a new equation.
3. In the second, insert a new equation.
4. In the first, move the mouse over the equation ribbon and click each
tile's down arrow to reveal all the optional example tiles.
5. In the second, move the mouse over the equation ribbon and click each
tile's down arrow to reveal all the optional example tiles.
6. Notice the new blacks bits that appear in one of the windows.

I'm not seeing the same thing. I do know that Office 2007 can be hard on
video drivers, and I'm wondering if what you're seeing could be a video
driver problem. I did seen something similar to what you're describing
during beta testing, but not since Beta 2 TR, and certainly not in the RTM
version.

I'm unable to produce that effect either. I'd also include the printer
driver as a possible cause too. Are you using the same printers across the
network? I'd suggest trying a different printer driver to see if it makes
any difference to the display.

Now i remember reading something about printer drivers causing a problem.
However, on both machines no printers are currently installed. As for
videocard problems, both machines use different cards from different vendors
with different drivers.

I have checked in "c:\windows\system32\spool\" and only MS printer drivers
seem to be there. I have also run the microsoft office diagnostic tools and
found no problems. Also, I used to have Adobe Acrobat 7 Professional on both
machines, which was removed after office installation. One final comment,
both machines have had at some time a copy of B2TR installed on them and
currently still have office XP.

Now, I have tried all I can think of apart from a full format and reinstall.
Any suggestions?

Previous versions of Word don't work well at all without access to a printer
driver, so this may be the problem. Install a printer and set it as the
default, even if there is no printer physically attached to the system.

I bet that's the problem: the EE is very printer driver and graphics
intensive.
