Word2k ErrMsg, "Winword.exe has generated errors and will be close

When I open Word 2000, I receive the following error message,
"WINWORD.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will
need to restart the program. An error log is being created."

I tried renaming the 'NORMAL.DOT' template and creating a new one, but I
still get the same message.

Any suggestions before trying to uninstall and reinstall Office 2000?
(I can't find the CDs at the moment).
