After checking everywhere I could think of in groups and elsewhere on
the web, I finally stumbled on the solution to the error message "The
macro cannot be found or has been disabled because of your Macro
security settings" that kept popping up in Word 2000 every time I
invoked an external English dictionary (Random House Webster's
Unabridged).
This dictionary installs a .dll file in the Word Startup folder, which
makes the macro for opening the dictionary accessible from a menu by
right-clicking on any word in Word's text screen.
The problem turned out to be that I'd had a system crash and had had
to reinstall MS office. I was able to keep and re-use my old
Normal.dot template file, however. That file contained the macros for
invoking the dictionary.
Apparently those old macros caused Word to look in another folder
other than Startup. In any case, I found and opened the toolbar with
the button called "RHUD" by right-clicking on the toolbars. Then I
right-clicked on the toolbars, clicked on "Customize", and then under
the toolbar tab clicked on Short-cut Menus.
I then went through the menus and deleted (by dragging off the menu)
the old menu items for the dictionary macro. I then dragged by holding
down the Cntl key a copy of the new dictionary macro menu item to
wherever on the shortcut menus I wanted to use it.
Closed the toolbars, saved Normal.dot. Problem solved.
FWIW.
