Word2K3 Paste over highlighted text not working

On my home installation of Word 2003, if I highlight something in the
document, then do a normal paste operation, the highlighted text will
be directly overlaid by whatever was in the clipboard. Exactly what I
want it to do. However, in my work install of the same version, if I
do the very same thing, the pasted text comes in just fine, but the
highlighted text remains in the doc (adjacent to the new text) and I
have to manually delete it. Doesn't matter if it's in overtype or
insert mode. I don't see this behavior in, for example, Outlook or
Frontpage, etc, just in Word. Annoying! I tried the "fix" option for
Office, but it did not change anything in this regard.

Anyone else seeing this or better, have a fix?

TIA

In Tools | Options, clear the option for "Typing replaces selection."
Assuming that I remember correctly, the option is found on the Edit tab.

DUH!!!! That said, this option was NOT checked, so I checked it, and
it now works like a champ!!!

I guess I thought that if the insert key was set to overtype, it would
do it with the paste as well. Clearly it does not.

THANK YOU!!!

Sorry, I meant to write, make sure the option is *checked*.

Anyway, I'm glad you now got it sorted!
