word97 freeze after running for a while

Hi everyone,

I have a computer that runs office97 in Win98SE w 64mb RAM. Recently
whenever I use word97, Word would run for a while and then freeze. It
freeze when I click on the scrolling bar, typing, copy & paste
etc. This happens everytime so that word is not usable now.

I try most of the methods mentioned in this group and the FAQ
including:

delete the normal.dot
delete temp files
scan for virus
scandisk and defrag HD
delete the registry items
uninstall and then reinstall office97

Nothing works. Anyone has any idea of what is wrong? Should I
reinstall Windows?

Thanks

Patrick.

Do you have a printer installed locally?

Yes, I have a HP6L installed and also a network printer
through a Novell Network.

This could be a video driver problem.

I have already updated the video drivers. along with the mouse
driver.. Can the printer driver be the problem? How does Word work
with the printers? Does it check it regularly? I think I will replace
it on Monday just in case. Thanks for your help.

Word relies very heavily on the printer driver for formatting information.
It *will not work* without a printer driver installed locally. If you
experience problems in the Font, Paragraph, Style, Symbol, Page Setup, or
Print dialog, the cause is most likely a damaged printer driver.
