Word97 - Mail Merge - Suppress Blank Lines in a Letter

I'm trying to suppress the blank lines in the
name/address of a Word Mail Merge letter. The line is
blank except for the Paragraph break character. I've
selected the option to Suppress Blank Lines.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Cindy,

If the line is blank, why not simply delete it?

If it is not, please describe EXACTLY what is in the line
(Alt+F9 to display the field codes, and make sure all
non-printing characters are displayed).
