Word97 on XP giving "File not found" errors...

When I double-click on a word document, Word attempts to
open, then reports a "File not found" "The path or filename
is invalid" error, but it lists the complete and correct
path and filename in the error. Any method used to attempt
opening a document outside of word failed with this error.
As soon as I opened word and used the "File->Open" method
to open the same file, the problem went away. What can
caues an error like this to happen?

You need to recreate the file association which is used when you open
a file outside the application. Go to Start/Run and run:

winword /r

Note the space before the forward slash.
