Word98 autocorrect of spelling not working

I've got "suggest from the main dictionary" checked; is there something
else that I should have set?
At present, when I mis-type a word it's not automatically corrected,
forcing me to slow down, backtrack, etc.

Hi Gary,

You need to be sure that the language of the text is the same language used
by the main dictionary. Select the text you're trying to spell check, go to
Tools menu> Language (at least that's where it is in Word 2001) and set the
language of the text to be the same as that of the dictionary.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, Beth. Indeed, for some reason I found out that "Russian" (a
language I read and translate from) was being selected as the language
being used. I re-set the language as English (US) and even selected it as
the Default Language, but a few minutes later when I saw that the
spellcheck wasn't correct mistypings that "Russian" was again selected.

Any idea what's wrong here? I've set the font to Geneva 12.

Thanks, Beth. The problem seems to have corrected itself, although not
immediatley... except
that the first time I edit the document I get a response "Word cannot find
the hyphenation file for Russian".
