Word98 crash

Word 98 on my iMAC (OS9.2.2) is crashing. Whenever I try to open the
application it stops loading and I get the following error message:
"The application ’Microsoft Word’ has unexpectedly quit because of an
error of type 2 occurred."

I tried reloading the application and even opening it from the CD, but
I get the same error message.

Suggestions?

Type 2 errors in OS 9.1 are often memory errors, so read that section first.
It could be due to other issues, however, but most are explored somewhere in
that article.

Also, reloading Office without first removing the existing installation is
not a good idea since old files may be left behind to cause conflicts. That
too is explained in the article I cited.
