WordFonts do not work properly on Newtork Accounts

I am using Word 2008 and have my home account on a network. Everything
appears normal except the fonts are all messed up. When you select a
specific font another font is substituted. Also the fonts do not show
up as they appear (Yes the preference is set). Is there anyway to
correct this or am I doomed to go local???We will be converting may
units to 2008 and this is a MAJOR problem.

Any assistance will be most helpful.

I assume you have done a cold boot? (I.e. Powered down the computer and
restarted).

A cold boot rebuilds the font caches, and it should clear this issue.

I wouldn't roll out Office 2008 with network homes yet. There are some
major bugs with file locking that have yet to be resolved.

I strongly suggest that if you have not rolled out yet, you should wait for
Service Pack 2 before deploying to an environment using network home
directories.

I would also ensure that you leave Office 2004 installed when you do roll
out: your users will need it.

Cheers

Thank you for the information. We were going to install 08 this
summer. Any idea when service pack 2 might be out? This is a critical
issue to us since all of our PC's and Macs use network accounts.

A cold boot does not resolve the issue. It appears that Word, and
Powerpoint, are reading the fonts form the wrong location. Not exactly
sure.

Truthfully, I have no idea when SP 2 will appear. If I were to guess, I
would pick November/December...

If you can get some detailed diagnostics on the problems, I can put these in
to the developers. I know they are currently working on some networking
problems.

Cheers

I would be more then happy to work along with them. The only issue
that I have run across so far is the font problem. Fonts do not show
up WYSIWYG font and styles menu. When you select a font it substitutes
another font. And the other font collection is missing from the top of
the menu.

The old problem whereby you can not save a .doc document to the network
account appears to be solved in this version. (Prior versions required
you to save a file in rtf format or you would get a permission error
message.)

Hi: Sorry, I can't do much for you unless you provide detailed diagnostic
information and a valid email address.

If you want to email me privately, that's fine. Send in plain text and do
not include attachments or formatting, or the Spam filter will dump it :)
