WordMail could not be started.

I am receiving a message stating "Microsoft WordMail could not be started.
Close any open dialog boxes in Word and try again." The option under tools
to make Outlook use Word as the mail editor is not clicked on. What else
could be causing this problem? Thanks in advance for the help.

Office doesn't support mixed versions of applications.

In order to use Word as your email editor, Word and Outlook need to be the
same version.

I'm not trying to use it. I've never tried to use it. The checkbox is NOT
checked on yet I am still receiving the message "Microsoft WordMail could not
be started.
Close any open dialog boxes in Word and try again." I'm trying to find out
why I'm receiving the message and what I can do to make it stop.

I am using Outlook 2003 and Word is 2002

For integration to work between the components of MS Office, they must
be at the SAME version.

However, it looks like you are attempting to NOT use Word as your
new-mail editor since the option is deselected in Outlook. Sometimes it
helps to toggle an option and then toggle it back. So enable the option
to use Word (if not grayed out), exit Outlook, reload Outlook, and
deselect the option to use Word and see if the alert disappears.

If that doesn't work, do you get the same alert if you start Outlook in
its safe mode ("outlook.exe /safe")? Perhaps you installed an add-on
that works with Word from within Outlook but the interface is broken
because you are using mixed versions of Word and Outlook.

Select the option and then deselect it again. When you now save your Outlook
settings you should no longer get this message. The issue is that sometime
it was enabled so your settings are still reflecting that until Outlook
gives you that error. It will deselect that option for the current sessions
only so you'll get it the next time you start Outlook again and don't change
anything.
