Wordviewer 2003 kills Word (Office) 2000

I have XP SP2 and Office 2000. I downloaded and ran Wordviewer 2003. This
has wiped out MS Word in Office 2000. I have removed wordviewer and
reinstalled Office 2000 but Word still does not run. Failure is 'not
responding' with blank (white) page near start up of Word. Has wordviewer
downloaded updated something used by Word, but not part of word? This is a
significant problem for me as I can no longer use Word.

Further investigation suggests that a second process is started (seen in Task
Manager - with a Word Viewer icon when the first (Word) process is actioned
(e.g. by a mouse click). Both processes show 'not responding', eventually
after several minutes the second process dies (Word Viewer has been removed)
and the first process behaves normally. The 'not responding' state is
preseumably the result of a time out (going to the second process in task
manager indicates that it is actually explorer.exe) because the second
process does not properly start. Where should I look to fix this?

I had a thought that at the point the problem occurs, Word is attempting to
display a blank document based on Normal.dot. I found a very helpful article
Normal.dot Template - Explained by by Dian Chapman, MVP, MOS at
http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/Pub0009/LPMArticle.asp?ID=151 and
following that advice was able to confirm that Wordviewer had corrupted
Normal.dot. Replaced from back-up - problem solved!
