if I open a file that doesn't have this problem, and I close it without
saving, and open it again, now it has the problem. Isn't that illegal
or something? (Word wraps text 4" on 16 dec) I ran McAfee and reloaed
Word97.

problem solved. sorry to bother you. turned out to be a problem in
the Windows toolbar where Open and View come from. I uninstalled
service pac 2 from WindowsXP and reinstalled it. everything's fine.
